Beginnings

The beginnings of patrols were typically dull. It wasn't that she went out looking for trouble; she would be completely content to go a night without having to stop a hold-up or assault. Still the times between pounding Skulls and Hellions were slow, and the largest block of time seemed to be between first starting patrol and the first encountered crime.
Parity jogged to a halt on a street corner. People passed by on the street, not really paying attention her. Not really paying attention to anything. Paragon citizens had an almost supernatural ability to ignore heroes. She edged back toward an alley, preparing to continue her patrol.
"Help, somebody!" a voice cried out. "Help me!"
Parity's ears perked, and she instinctively knew which way to head. The calls were coming from a large parking area. Parity could see the person, a nurse. She was surrounded by Hellions, and Parity smirked as she saw that the nurse was putting up a fight.
She leapt into the fray, landing a blow to one of Hellions before her feet touched the ground. Parity followed through with her attack, delivering a punch to the Hellion's face. He stumbled back, and fell to the ground.
Parity moved forward, getting between the nurse and Hellions. "Who's next?" she asked. The Hellions looked between each other, picking who was to go first no doubt. They silently chose between themselves, and one of the Hellions with a bat charged forward.
Parity feinted to the right, and then jerked to her left. The Hellion's bat swung past her, clunking against the asphalt. Parity snagged his bat holding arm, and twisted sharply. The bat clattered to the ground with a pleasing noise. Free from any worry about the bat, Parity stepped forward and punched the batter.
As the batting Hellion stumbled back, another charged at her. Parity swung a fist at the new attacker. Her blow connected, once again driving back the attack.
The Hellions did not last long after that. In short order, Parity rendered them all unconscious. They were all laid out on the ground, waiting to be picked up by a Police Drone or an officer. Looking down at them, Parity dusted off her hands more, for dramatic effect more than dust.
"This is the most exciting thing that's ever happened to me," the nurse cried. She ran up to Parity, and gave a slight bow.
Parity smiled and shrugged. "All in a night's work," she replied. As soon as she did, the nurse nodded, and then took off, disappearing into the Atlas City berg. Parity gave a slight wave as the nurse disappeared.
Back to patrol, Parity decided. Perhaps, she halfway hoped, patrol wouldn't be too dull after all.
